The free daily receipt

Updated

FreeCharityReceipts gives every organization one free receipt per day, for a gift of up to $10,000 USD. You don't need an account or a card.

How the free receipt works

  • It is counted per EIN, not per person. If a colleague already made today's free receipt for your EIN, it is used.
  • It is counted by the EIN as you type it, so use the same form every time: 12-3456789.
  • It covers a Cash Donation with the first or third IRS statement. Option B is not covered.
  • It covers a gift of $10,000 or less.
  • The day is counted in UTC, so it resets at midnight UTC. That is 7 p.m. Eastern Standard Time or 8 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, and 4 p.m. or 5 p.m. Pacific.

What you see on the form

Once you type your EIN, the page checks it. If today's free receipt has already been used, you see Daily limit reached! with your EIN and the count, and the form is disabled. The button reads Daily Limit Reached - Sign In for Credits, or Daily Limit Reached if you are signed in. It works again when the day resets, or when you are signed in with credits or a pass.

When you need credits instead

You need credits or a pass for:

  • a second receipt on the same day for the same EIN
  • a gift over $10,000
  • Non-cash gift (donated item)
  • a receipt with the Option B statement (Goods or services were provided in exchange for this contribution.)
  • Bulk
  • a correction

See Credits and passes.

If you are signed in

Signed-in users with credits or a pass pay with those. The free receipt is used only when you are signed in with no credits and no pass, and only for a 1-credit cash receipt.

Common questions

I got "Daily limit reached!" but I haven't made a receipt today. Someone else may have used the free receipt for your EIN. Also check the number for typos.

Amount Exceeds Free Tier. The gift is over $10,000. Sign in and use credits for that receipt.

Can I save my free receipts for later? No. Each day's free receipt is available that day only.
